Surveys, Polls and Potential Audience

We carried out some online surveys and polls to get the views of audiences and their opinions and suggestions to our film and specifically the genre of our film. Since our group was supposed to have the same results from the surveys and polls, one of us had to make them. Therefore, Saad carried them out however all of us had made the questions. I have added the links of the surveys and polls to this post so that they might be viewed from my blog as well:

Poll 3

The Audience that we are targeting in our film are young people, both male and female. The age group we are targeting is from the age of 15 to 30 years old. Mostly males tend to watch slasher films because the female is the victim, but in our film the female is the killer so we believe that it will help us attract more females to watch our film. We have also used this age group for the potential audience of our film because we researched and found out that young people take more interest in watching such films than other age groups. We also found out that in such films young people are the main characters, either as the victims or as the killers.

Trip to Mohatta Palace

On the 20 the of January, our Media class of A1's and A2's was taken to Mohatta Palace to see The Rising Tide exhibition. Being with Media classmates and friends, it was great fun, however, it was astonishing to see the awesome work by Pakistani artistes. Since art is not exactly something that I really pay attention to, it made it difficult for me to understand most of the work of different renowned Pakistani artistes. However, one of the art that I thought was creative and meaningful was The Flying Carpet by Abdullah Syed. He had made a small carpet (smaller then a real one) out of US Dollars and staple pins and it was hanging at one corner of the room where it was placed. The creative part was that the carpet seemed to have shapes in it that were either cut out or  left out and there were two spotlights from different angles shining at it. The two spot lights made two shadows at  the walls that were around it and each shadow had different shapes inside it which was really creative. I thought of posting an image as well to show his work:

A close view of both the shadows has some shapes in them. One has shapes of Minarets and such type of things, while the other has the shapes of guns and daggers and other types of weapons. The main art in this is the shapes made in the carpet and the perfect spot to place the spot lights for the right shadows. I have not seen art in this way before so I felt that it was a different way to show something rather than just painting it or sculpting it.
Abdullah Syed has basically made a point that money is used for good and bad. By using the US Dollar, he is depicting America, that is considered as the superpower at present. The flying carpet is a a mysterious effect in this art though, as there is no confirmation on what it would actually mean. I think that the flying carpet depicts the Arab countries and that being made out of US Dollars shows that America gets its wealth from the Arab countries and has used it and it uses the wealth for good purposes such as supporting religion and humanity etc. as well as bad purposes such as the making of weapons of mass destruction and other weapons.
The Flying Carpet as very creative in its own way, especially the way the artiste has depicted his thoughts. However, the art exhibition had other interesting paintings and other works of art. I am thankful to Miss. Fauzia, our media practical teacher, for arranging this trip for us. Despite the enjoyment that we experienced, the art gave me a broader view of media and showed me how Pakistani art is becoming popular and the artistes so creative. I hope to visit some other exhibition in the future.

Kamran and Aarish's Prelim and JC LIVE Backdrop

I acted in this film for Kamran and Aarish's Prelim. Just thought I should put it up.

Kamran and I designed the backdrop for our school's "JC Live", a charity concert which has been organised by the school. The concert is on the 29th of January. We designed it on Adobe Photoshop using some pictures that the organizer gave us of our school band performing in a concert which was last year. I have posted the image of the backdrop that we designed.

Location Pictures and Storyboard

The following are the pictures of our location. We took these on set on our first shoot on the 15th of January. The house is exactly what we needed or our film:

This is the area where where we will be shooting Afia's scene where the guy (the main actor) looks outside and finds the girl that he think he killed to be standing there, in the lane.
This is the living room of Saad's house where the guy comes in after the party, and listens to the messages on his answering machine.
This is also an image of the living room, but from a different angle.
This is a clearer image of the area where the guy comes and listens to the messages on his answering machine. A couple of telephones can be seen on the right side in the image.
This is the door of the house and also the main entrance, after the main gate. The plants outside give a very nice look to the entrance.

This is an image of the outside of the house, we will use the outside of the house to show the guy drive up to the house and then park it and go inside.

Finally Kicked Of With The Final Project

We finally did some shooting on the 15th of January, 2011. The shooting was done at Saad's house and Faraaz, a friend from school, helped us in acting. Some shooting still remains  because we didn't have much time and we needed one car for the first shot and we didn't have a car in which Faraaz would drive up. We will hopefully complete our shooting next week.

Final Script

4th January 2011.
We have decided that our final story for our final media project will be the one that I uploaded in my previous blog. We have also decided on our final location and it will be Saad's house. We have also chosen one of our friends to act for us, however that is not final as we need to discuss if there is someone else who could be better for the character. We will finalize our schedule tomorrow and hopefully begin shooting on Saturday 8th, this week. We also need to make our questionnaire and plan on a different ending for the opening title, which will be used in the focus group that we plan to hold after the film is completed.

Opening Title for Final Media Project

On 31st January 2010 I came up with a story, or more like a shot sequence for our Final Project. The title "Sweet Vengeance" has not yet been changed, however, I did a little brainstorming to convert our previous story into an opening title.
The story is as follows: A young man is deceiving the girl who is his girlfriend/wife. The girl finds out about the guy deceiving her and so wants to take friend. She turns into a psychopath and teams up with the guy's former best friend, who had also been deceived by the young man, and takes her friend.
The sequence for the Opening Title that I came up with is as follows: A man drives into the car porch of a house. He enters the house, opens the fridge, takes out something to drink and then goes into his room. In his room there is a telephone. The man pushes a button and messages start playing. This shows that the man is listening to the messages on the answering machine of the phone. The man keeps on listening to the messages. The first two messages are of two different girls and their speech gives a hint of the guy either meeting them or having met them before. The third and final message is of the man's wife/girlfriend and as the message is played, the man stops and then his face expression is changed and then the title comes in.
Afia and Saad, who are also in my group, will also make their own opening titles and then we will discuss it on Monday and then pick the best one and if needed, make amendments to it.
Keeping this opening title in mind, we will be needing only one person to act and the rest of the work will be done by us.
